Michigan State University students were told to run, hide or fight Monday evening after a report of shots fired on the school’s East Lansing campus. The school sent an alert at 8:31 p.m. and later said there were reports of injuries.
According to local police reports the incident was reported to start at 8:18 p.m. inside Berkey Hall. According to MSU Police and Public Safety there are at least three confirmed fatalities. This is in addition to the 5 victims who have been transported to the hospital.
Earlier reports indicated that there could be up to three shooters, but police are now only confirming one suspect. Local police have confirmed that they are searching for 1 black male.
Local reports say there were multiple shooting scenes on campus, including:
- Berkey Hall
- Student Union
- Phillips Hall
UPDATE: Local police scanner audio has reported that police approached a person matching the suspect’s description and they say he shot himself. Audio can be heard below.
